Chain Repulsion - Chore Coat
A destroyed antique denim chore coat that has been repaired, restored, and reimagined. Featuring a hand-sewn tentacle motif appliqué composed of a hand dyed cotton twill dipped in a homemade indigo vat then painted with genuine indigo dye. Original stains and paint splatters throughout.
Patches that intersected at seams were made by drafting a pattern for that specific patch in order to maintain the intention and integrity of the seam as well as the shape of the garment. Front pockets removed and placed on the inside of the coat to show off the natural fading throughout the material. Patched & repaired with recycled denim and other antique cottons. Features several visible mending techniques including darning and sashiko stitching done by hand.
